Your domain name is your website address. First you have to buy one from a domain registrar. Your domain registrar is the company who holds your DNS information See the description below. This name is associated with you server address where your website will be “hosted” (see website hosting). You need to find a name that’s not currently being used. For example “mysite.com”, “mysite.org” etc. You perform a domain name search first to see if your chosen name is available. If it is available you “register” the domain for a nominal fee, usually for 1, 3 or 5 years at a time. The company you use for this does matter. We have an excellent company we use and can take care of this for you.
DNS – Short for Domain Name System (or Service or Server), an Internet service that translates domain names into IP addresses. Because domain names are alphabetic, they’re easier to remember. The Internet however, is really based on IP addresses. Every time you use a domain name, therefore, a DNS service must translate the name into the corresponding IP address. For example, the domain name www.example.com might translate to 220.127.116.11.

Our design tools allow us to make changes rapidly. It’s not uncommon for us to make the change and have it online in minutes. Often customers like the design and it can go live quickly.
Responsive Design – All of our designs work on desktop computers, laptops, tablets, ipads and smart phones.
Websites need TLC. They need to be backed up, secured, updated, tweaked and generally looked after. They also need to have the latest information so they don’t get “stale”. I can do all of this for you.
You must have a hosting company in order to have a website. A hosting company has large computer rooms where they have “web servers”. This is where your website lives. The files that make up your website. Whoever manages your website (webmaster), they have to connect to your server every time they update your website. Your webmaster also must login to a control panel to do various tasks like adding email accounts and a number of other tasks. Your hosting company also has professional maintenance people who take care of things like server updates, backups, security and many other things. Your choice of a hosting company is critical to having a reliable and secure website as well as an excellent customer service team. We will make sure your website stays up to date with the latest upgrades, patches, and security. We will also monitor your server’s up time. If it goes offline for any reason we will be immediately notified and get it back up ASAP. We have found an excellent hosting company that we use. Unfortunately we had to learn the hard way through many problems and terrible customer suport. We’ll be happy to take care of this for you. Whoever takes care of your website will need access to your hosting company. We specialize in taking care of all the “pieces” that make up your website so you don’t have to worry about the details. We also consolidate the billing into one convenient detailed invoice for you which can be paid online.
Content Management System
A content management system (CMS) is a website that supports the creation and modification of digital content. It is typically used to support multiple users working in a collaborative environment where each user has a login and password. For example a radio station where one person might update news, another programming, another might upload or make available audio or video. Another example would be a store where products, sales and promo codes are added and modified. This allows you to update the “content” without having a webmaster do it. So in a CMS there is an underlying database that is not usually associated with simple information display websites. We can build your website with a CMS for future use even if you don’t need one now. We can also upgrade you later as your needs arise. This would typically require complete website rebuild.
A CMS can be very simple or quite sophisticated and complex. It depends on your requirements. We can not only design and create a CMS for you but we can be there when you need support or assistance or training or … We have created short custom instructional videos for our clients on specific tasks that can be viewed at any time by anyone you wish. Sometimes we just forget how we did something and a lit
CMS features – vary widely. Most CMSs include Web-based publishing, format management, history editing and version control, indexing, search, and retrieval. By their nature, content management systems support the separation of content (database) and presentation (website pages). Web content includes text (like articles) and embedded graphics, photos, video, audio and maps.
Two Major Components – Content management systems (CMS) have two major components. A front-end and a back end. The back end is where the developer designs and implements structural changes to the “system” The front end is where the end user (you and your team) add and modify “content”. There is a user interface that allows a user, even with limited expertise, to add, modify, and remove content from a website without the intervention of a webmaster. Each user can be given various roles. Subscriber, contributor, author, editor and administrator. Each bit of content is associated with whoever added it and can be displayed by such things a categories, tags, searches and many other ways to display this information on the website. Your website goes from a static display of information to a very dynamic assortment of content that can be stored, controlled and displayed virtually any way you want.
Based on market share statistics, the most popular content management system is WordPress, used by over 28% of all websites on the internet, and by 59% of all websites using a known content management system. Other popular content management systems include Joomla and Drupal. Wordpress has grown from a blogging platform to a world class CMS surpassing Joomla. There are thousands of “plug-ins” for wordpress that provide endless features to your website. We like to use wordpress for most CMS’s.

The merchant account will link to your bank account so having your bank as the merchant account can speed up how fast the funds show up in your account.
A merchant account is an agreement made between the business/seller, the bank where the merchant account is held and the payment processor to settle all transactions made by debit and credit cards. The fees associated with these accounts are usually in the following categories: monthly, discount rate and transaction. The rate that a business is charged for debit and credit card services provided by its merchant account is called a merchant discount rate.
There are many merchant account companies. Wells Fargo, stripe, authorize.net and many others to choose from. Rates are similar but can vary in percentage and fees per transaction. We can help you find the right one.
